With Jade Helm 15 on the horizon, residents of the states involved in the large special operations training exercise are worried that it could be a precursor to a large-scale roll-out of martial law or a host of other dire outcomes conceivable from the Obama administration.
The exercise, scheduled to begin in July and last until September, will take place on public and private land throughout seven states, with Utah and Texas, both of which are traditionally red states, being labeled as “hostile” territory for the duration.
That’s sparked concern from a number of Texas residents, which has in turn elicited responses from the state’s biggest players, including Gov. Gregg Abbott and Sen. Ted Cruz, who essentially said the public outcry is a natural consequence of an untrustworthy federal government.
Pentagon officials have issued official responses to the concerns of both residents and state lawmakers, saying they aren’t planning on taking over Texas and Jade Helm is strictly a training exercise for our special operations troops to better prepare for overseas operations in urban settings.
Gov. Abbott nonetheless ordered the Texas State Guard — a state-sponsored force that usually assists the Texas Army and Air Force National Guard in times of disaster — to monitor Jade Helm activities as they play out in his state, prompting a firestorm of criticism claiming that Abbott is “pandering” to conspiracy theorists, according to Fox News.
But Cruz has said that he understands the concerns of his constituents, adding, “When you see a federal government that is attacking our free speech rights, our religious liberty rights, our Second Amendment rights, that produces distrust as to government.”
There’s not a doubt in many people’s minds that an ominous cloud hangs over Operation Jade Helm 15 and only time will tell if citizens were right about their concerns.
But vigilance in the face of the lawless Obama administration is never a bad idea.
