John Hawkins, In Portland, during an Indigenous Peoples Day of Rage” event tied to Columbus Day, a mob pulled down statues of Abraham Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt.
The police were aware all of this was going on and didn’t stop it.
That being said, it’s hard to blame the police for it since the DA refuses to charge “low level” rioters. In other words, if the cops arrested everyone, they’d be out on the streets doing it again tomorrow without having to worry about going to jail. The police are only part of the process. If the DA wants the riots to continue, there’s not much the police can do over the long haul other than stand by and let it happen.
A mass gathering has formed at Southwest Park Avenue and Southwest Madison Street, where some are trying to pull down a statue with a chain. To those taking part: anyone involved in criminal behavior, including vandalism, is subject to arrest or citation. (continued)

Even though I grew up in the South, I was always indifferent to Confederate Statues. They never mattered much to me one way or the other, but I was very much against taking them down because like anyone with half a brain, I knew that it wouldn’t end there. Now, we’re at the point where liberals are pulling down statues of the Founding Fathers and great Americans like Teddy Roosevelt. You almost want to warn people to go see the Washington Monument and Lincoln Memorial while they can because you can be sure there are a lot of liberals that want to rip them down and people sympathetic to those mobs will be in charge of protecting them.
What’s going on in Portland is closer to an insurrection than a protest and it should have been shut down months ago. Nothing good ever comes of allowing mobs to rule the street.
