Judge Levies Steep Fines Until Wisconsin Deletes 200K Illegal Voters

,

A judge in Wisconsin has imposed a steep fine on a Wisconsin voter commission for ailing to delete 209,000 illegal voters from the state’s voting rolls.

Judge Paul Malloy ruled that the three Democratic commission members who have fought his previous order to remove the illicit voters must each pay $250 a day for every day they fail to comply with his order. The judge added that the commission must also pay an additional $50 a day until his order is fulfilled, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

“I can’t be any clearer than this,” Judge Malloy said. “They need to follow my order.”

The three Democrats — Ann Jacobs, Julie Glancey, and Mark Thomsen — claim that the judge has no standing to have the names removed from the voting rolls. They also insist that taking the names off the rolls is somehow depriving Wisconsin residents of their vote.

“If we are going to treat voting as the central component of our democracy, we need to be far less cavalier about taking people off the rolls,” Ann Jacobs told the media.

The voters to be removed, though, have false information, or past addresses on their registration, meaning they are not eligible to vote under the registered information. The judge says that anyone who is still a Wisconsin resident must re-register with their proper information.

The conservative Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty, the watchdog group that filed the lawsuit resulting in the judge’s order, said that the culling of illicit registrations is a must to fix the state’s voting records.

Voting rolls are increasingly filled with dead voters, illegal voters, or voters who moved away, and many groups are now calling for the states to cancel these millions of illicit registrations to prevent voter fraud.

For instance, a similar process is going on in Michigan. A lawsuit filed by the Public Interest Legal Foundation (PILF) found one voter still on Detroit’s voter rolls who was born in the year 1823! That was before Michigan even became a state!

But this isn’t a one-off voter roll glitch. PILF literally found thousands of falsely registered voters in the Motor City. The government watchdog found the fraud after combing through the voting rolls for two years and they have now filed a lawsuit against the city for the shambles the voting rolls are in.

It has been a problem for decades, of course. Detroit was one of the districts in 2016 that actually had more people voting than it had registered voters. Michigan and Wisconsin are not alone. Voter rolls are a mess in nearly every state.
