Fatal shooting claims lives of both Hattiesburg, Mississippi police officers, manhunt underway

 Officials have confirmed that two Hattiesburg Police Officers have been shot in Hattiesburg on Saturday evening.

Forrest County Coroner Butch  Benedict confirmed that both the officers have died due to injuries sustained in the shooting. Both officers were transported from the scene to Forrest General Hospital.

The identities of both victims are being withheld until notification of the next of kin.

According to officials, the officers were shot after an incident on Gordon Street.

 According to officials, the suspect fled the scene in an officer’s vehicle. It has since been found abandoned near the rail road tracks behind the train depot.

Multiple agencies are conducting a man hunt in the area but officials do not yet have a description of the suspect.

The crime scene has been expanded, and it is blocking off Gordon Street at the Bouie Street intersection.
